Resending: The Hidden Meaning Behind Your Clutter

Hello Reader,

As you look around your home what do you see? If you are looking at a lot of clutter you might be feeling overwhelmed right away. Maybe you have feelings of anxiety, frustration, sadness and just some overall tiredness. You just want to block it all out, avoid it and think about just about anything else but really just numb out or do nothing.

Some of these same feelings may come up when you are looking at your possessions, thinking about where to put items, wondering how to organize or make decisions about your stuff.

and on the flip side........

You might also have positive feelings when you are surrounded by your possessions like pleasure, comfort, safety or satisfaction. Finding a lost treasure, (something that has been missing) finding a found treasure (at a thrift shop), finding a bargain, or giving something away to someone who could truly enjoy it can feel quite rewarding.

I like to use the example of finding an amazing treasure at a thrift shop, feeling excited and like you are on a high and then once you are home wondering “now where will I put this” or you look at your finances and realize “oh no, what will I do for rent or groceries this month?”

Both the negative and positive emotions can keep us stuck in the cycle of acquiring stuff, moving stuff around and having difficulty discarding. It is often about the avoidance of the uncomfortable feelings associated with taking these steps to make change.

No wonder sorting, organizing and decluttering can feel so confusing! Right!

Until next time,

Happy Decluttering!
