Resending: Are You Creating a Nest Around Yourself?


Hello Reader,

You sit in your favourite chair and have all of your treasured things close by and just within arms reach. You have you tea or other favourite beverage beside you. You have your blanket and maybe your kitty on your lap. And this is your safe and happy place.

Can you relate to this? I have my hand up here too!

We often think of clutter as laziness, messiness, or just “too much stuff.”

But maybe it’s more than that? What if it’s a kind of a protection that we create for ourselves?

Having a lot of clutter around can mean many things. Maybe it means that you cannot have people over or you don't have to have the family over?

Clutter can’t hurt you but people can. Clutter keeps relationships out and can create a buffer for yourself.

Having a lot of clutter can keep you so busy that you don’t have time to slow down and feel what’s really going on underneath.

Letting go can feel vulnerable. Like standing in front of the world without your armour on.

I think it can feel like all of a sudden having some free time or space and just not knowing what to do with yourself. It can feel really uncomfortable.

You might be thinking.....

. “If I hold on to this, I won’t forget who I used to be.”

. “If I don’t make a decision, I won’t make the wrong one.”

. “If I keep this, maybe I’ll feel safe…. and prepared for the future”

When we let go we can feel lighter and as if a weight has been lifted off of our shoulders. Something shifts in us and we want more of that feeling.

We start trusting ourselves again. We create breathing room. We invite clarity. We begin to feel safe not because we’re surrounded by stuff, but because we're more grounded.

Some writing prompts for you today:

So maybe the real question isn’t why do I have so much stuff? (although this is a good question to ask yourself)

What is this clutter protecting me from?

Do I still need that protection?
