Hello Reader, The best way to declutter is when you are packing to move or packing for a renovation. Yes, we are renovating our kitchen! Ugh! I am nervous and excited! I have dreamt about this for so long. Our house was built around 1956 or so and the cupboards have not changed since then. They bang when you close them and actually they have ceased closing properly. Also, the bottom ones just open randomly as you are trying to cook dinner. And every time those top drawers open and close wood shavings fall on everything stored below. So yes it is time! Here is my current kitchen cupboards and countertop area.. As you are reading this, these old cupboards are being removed. We will be without a kitchen sink or countertops for possibly two weeks. Oh my! Fortunately, we will still have access to our fridge and stove. I have been busy going through the cupboards and its amazing what you find in the back of those old cupboards. Expired food, food items that have been forgotten and no longer being used, and a few things never opened. It’s the same with the pots and pans, containers, baking pans, bowls, utensils, etc. A few duplicates of things now in the donation box ready to go. It feels really good to actually know what we have. I have been busy cooking and planning some easy meals for us during this “fun” time. The good news is I won’t be spending as much time in the kitchen cooking. However, it is feeling overwhelming just watching my makeshift kitchen (dining room) get fuller and fuller. I am hopeful that it will be exciting to watch our new kitchen come to life. Stay tuned for more pics. I will also be sharing more about the process as we go through this. Let me know what your experience has been with moving or living through a renovation. What was the hardest part? Do you have any questions about this process? Until next time, P.S. Hello Reader, A little update on the kitchen renovation. It’s mostly done now, I just have to get someone in to paint, put up the backsplash and put up a few shelves. I really love a few open shelves. I actually have a kitchen sink now. You really realize how much you depend on those simple things. It was two weeks without a sink and it really wasn’t terrible. We set up a make shift kitchen in the dining room using two basins from the dollar store for dishes. The worse part was having to take...
Hello Reader, I know right - Me neither! Most people would never fantasize about cleaning out the basement. lol But.......the point is that sometimes we set unrealistic goals for ourselves. If the job is too big then it is easy to sabotage our intentions. We will find anything to do other than the task at hand. We might say "oh I think I will make a full on breakfast first, or "Let's go and get some bins, garbage bags, cleaners etc."........anything but going down to the basement. Basements...
